Google Acquired UK’s Visual Search company Plink. Visual Search first started in 2007, but never really hit off until 2009 with Microsoft’s Bing Visual Search. Google has launched its form of mobile visual search; Google Googles.
Now seems Google is showcasing to the world that they are indeed serious about visual search by acquiring the UK company that develops the mobile search engine. Plink has an Android app that lets users identify works of art by taking pictures with the phone’s camera. Google plans to merge Plink and Google Goggles, which should probably make the application that much more powerful.
As far as PlinkArt goes, it won’t be abandoned (yet). The Plink team claims that “nothing is changing for now,” but they will be “shifting development efforts towards Google Goggles.”
